Royal Match

Royal Match Onboarding

Tutorials are very important, but too many can be overwhelming.

Onboarding is a crucial element for games. When conducting onboarding, you cannot subject users to lengthy texts or videos. The goal of users when playing a game is to have fun, and if you introduce them to complex and tiresome steps, you can easily lose them. New game mechanics should be presented to users in a flowing manner, meaning you can't introduce everything all at once.

Royal Match takes a successful approach in this regard. Initially, it refrains from interrupting the user's gaming experience with excessive tutorial sequences. Keeping this brief is logical. I've examined the tutorial flow for the first 9 levels below.

The illustrations on the loading screen also serve as a kind of tutorial. This is not something that tires the user. The game progression continues even if they don't make these power-ups, but when they apply them over time, they will gain an advantage.

Explaining Box Obstacle

The matching mechanic is not explained through text at all. Only in the first level, while explaining the "BOX obstacle", a simple hand animation demonstrates how to make a match.
